The late National Artist Thawan Duchanee had “Baan Dam Museum” known as the black house constructed to gather and permeate his greatest masterpiece. Located in a vast space, this local art museum consists of 36 small houses elaborately embellished with wood carvings appearing like a large group of Lanna buildings painted in black which was the owner’s favorite color. Each and every house possess its own style and some are open to accommodate those who interested in learning more about arts. Only the black house gallery displays up to 10,000 artworks of the late artist and also functions as a souvenir shop. The products visitors can choose and buy include t-shirt, printed image, book and many more. The income after expenses will be used for maintaining the museum and donated to art students in need of financial assistance.
